An apartment at the tony 838 5th Avenue has been sold for $31.9 million.
The 5,416 s/f Unit #8 was bought and sold by unidentified LLCs and the deal included a 45 s/f storage room and “staff apartment,ˮ according to city records.
838 Fifth Avenue is the former site of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. It was converted by Louis Dubin’s Athena Group in 2000 and turned into an exclusive 11-unit condo whose past residents have included billionaire Seagram’s liquor scion Charles Bronfman.
The building was reconfigured by architects Beyer Blinder Belle as full floor units with a duplex penthouse.
When it was completed in the summer of 2001 with total sales of $121.1 million, it was the highest average price per square foot sales ever achieved for residential condominiums in New York.
The apartment was last sold in 2005 for $21 million. In 2000, it was purchased from the developer for $14.82 million.

HAMPTONS firm Saunders & Associates announced that Alan Schnurman sold a Sag Harbor home in excess of its listing price of $13 million as a furnished space.
The property, which had multiple bids, was on the market for just one month before Schnurman sold it for one of the highest prices ever in Noyack.
The home is located on 175 feet of bulkhead waterfront on Noyack/Peconic Bay and is a 6,000 s/f Roger Ferris+Partners-designed residence.
“This home is absolutely spectacular and so unique to Noyack,” said Schnurman. “It’s no wonder that this is one of the highest achieved sales in Noyack Bay to date.”

The four-bedroom, 5,500 s/f beachfront house in Sagaponack, which was listed for $23.5 million earlier this year, sold for $19.95 million, according to published reports.

Before Joel owned it, Jaws actor Roy Scheider owned the mansion.
