Construction workers building an extension to PS129 in College Point, Queens, are hoping they’ve said goodbye to the last of winter. Teams from Technico Construction Services, along with iron workers from Gabriel Steel Erectors, are building a 52,000 s/f addition to the existing elementary school. With temperatures hitting single digits several times this winter, workers have been warned to be aware of cold-weather dangers. As heat can escape through any exposed part of the body, workers are warned to wear multiple layers and headgear that covers as much of their head as possible. Gloves and insulated safety boots not only help keep workers warm, they also provide the needed protection against job site hazards on a snow covered construction site. Most importantly, workers have to keep moving. Standing still can encourage a chill to set in.
