Sander will be working with chairman and co-founder Husam Ahmad, P.E., to expand the firm’s global operations.

In about a decade from now, a six-story retail complex will open on the Hudson Yards site in Midtown West. The shops there, including two floors of restaurants and a dine-in movie theater, will should for nearby luxury towers what the Time Warner Center, one of Related’s earlier experiments in large-scale development, did for Columbus Circle in 2003. “It’s certainly helped establish the Eighth Avenue corridor as highly desirable residential location,” said Jacqueline Urgo of the Marketing Directors.

When Sapna Advana, an urban planner, joined the Brooklyn Waterfront Research Center as a research fellow six months ago, she polled residents in Sunset Park about changes they’d like to see to see along the harbor. The majority asked that the waterfront remain exactly as it’s been for decades: a working port, with cranes, warehouses, and graving docks, where cargo ships are drained of water. “Residents favor industrial over high-rises,” said Advani, who directs planning at Chelsea West Architects. “They want proximity to well-paying jobs.”
Columbia Doctors, a group of more than 200 physicians affiliated with Columbia Hospital, has leased 120,000 s/f at 1290 Avenue of the Americas sources familiar with the deal say. The organization will take 1290 Avenue of the Americas’ entire third floor, a roughly 110,000 s/f space, as well as a retail duplex abutting 51st Street that it will convert into a dedicated entrance.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced that upscale handbag maker Coach will be the first major commercial tenant to take space at the planned Hudson Yards development.
Coach will purchase a 600,0000 s/f commercial condominium share in the tower - more than one-third of the available commercial space.
Together with the completion of the #7 subway line extension and the new Hudson Boulevard Park, the deal will kick-start the development of the entire Hudson Yards area, a 60-block and 300-acre neighborhood.
None of the parties involved in the deal would disclose further details of the sale, but the mayor said, “Today’s news will have a domino effect on the rest of the development.”
