Architecture firm Sawicki Tarella is close to signing a contract to buy a building on West 13th Street for around $3 million, according to broker Josh Fields of the Spire Group, who also recently rented out NBA player Zydrunas Ilgauskas’s 24 Thompson Street townhouse.
The seller is an individual whose family had owned the property for 50 years.
The firm plans to convert the three-story building, which is 2,100 s/f, plus a basement and rooftop space, into its new offices.
Led by George Sawicki and Joseph Tarella, Sawicki Tarella has completed primarily commercial and retail projects. It designed the Ukrainian Museumand interiors for DKNY, Chase Bank and a restaurant for Barneys New York. Prior to joining the firm, Tarella was involved in the master plan for Battery Park City and 42nd Street.
It has one residential project: the Ben Dov residence, a pied-à-terre overlooking Central Park.
Sawicki Tarella currently leases a space on the 11th floor of 65 Bleecker Street.
“They’re looking forward to not paying rent anymore,” said Fields, who brokered the deal.
