A new environmentally friendly automatic parking system is being given a test drive in downtown Brooklyn.
Parkmatic, specialists in mechanical and automated parking systems for more than 20 years, is introducing its Carousel Parking System to the US at Verti-Park, 169 Tillary Street, at the corner of Gold Street in Downtown Brooklyn.
The environmentally-efficient system utilizes a Ferris wheel-style car stacker capable of holding 30 vehicles in the space of six, with retrieval time spanning 15 seconds for the lowest vehicle, and up to two minutes for the highest. The carousel parker rotates bi-directionally, sensing and lowering the vehicles to ground level.
Traffic studies estimate that nearly 30 percent of congestion on city streets comes from people looking for places to park. More vehicles also mean increased carbon emissions, as well as wasted gasoline and stress on the environment and local communities.
The Carousel Parking System has been designed to increase the number of parking spaces and better manage turnover. It reduces the number of motorists circling for parking spots, with obvious benefits to the environment.
“There are other mechanical and automated parking options in the city, but none as efficient as our rotary Carousel Parking System in terms of operation and containment,” said Max Wassef, U.S. Director of Parkmatic Car Parking Solutions.
“When you think of how precious space is in New York City, this is an ideal solution in which 30 cars that basically take up nearly a city block when parked, can use approximately 48 feet or a fifth of the same space.”
