Growth in worker mobility sparks Furnished Quarters expansion

Furnished Quarters, the company that provides temporary furnished apartments throughout the US, is growing its presence in Brooklyn.

The company now has fully equipped apartments in multiple luxury buildings in the borough, including Fifth & Wythe in Williamsburg, and Avalon Fort Greene in Downtown Brooklyn.

The move expands Furnished Quarters portfolio in the city to 800 units as the company positions itself to tap into growing demand for temporary furnished accommodations in key global cities.

The global relocation market has seen big changes as workers become more mobile than ever. The number of employees on the move is expected to continue to grow over the next decade.

A report from PwC called ‘Managing tomorrow’s people: The future of work to 2020’ noted that assignee levels have increased by 25 per cent over the past decade, and a further growth of 50 per cent is predicted in mobile employees by 2020.

Furnished Quarters said it plans to continue to grow its inventory to keep pace. “We added our first Brooklyn apartments a few months ago due to increased demand from our clients and guests,” said Steve Brown, CEO of Furnished Quarters.

“The apartments booked quickly and the requests continued to pour in. As a result, we’ve begun a full expansion into the Brooklyn market, adding new neighborhoods and more locations, as well as local staff to service the guests and apartments.”

Fifth & Wythe marks Furnished Quarters’ entry into the trendy Williamsburg neighborhood. The location offers residents easy access to dining, nightlife and boutiques and is a short walk to the Waterfront Piers. Avalon Fort Greene in Downtown Brooklyn is amenity-packed with a state-of-the-art fitness center, private clubhouse, 17,000 s/f outdoor urban park, resident’s lounge, and valet parking. Furnished Quarters has also added corporate apartments at City Tower, its first location in the Brooklyn market. This luxury building, located in Downtown Brooklyn, is within walking distance of Barclays Center as well as parks, shopping, and entertainment. Amenities include a 43rd-floor rooftop deck and a state-of-the-art fitness center with expansive views. The property also features a concierge, private event space, 18th-floor residents’ lounge, and basketball court.

Units include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom furnished apartments suited to the company’s primary clients, who continue to be corporate travelers. However a spokeswoman said Furnished Quarters continues to see an uptick in business from clients who are relocating, who need somewhere to stay during home renovations, extended hospital stays as well as seasonal internships.

Furnished Quarters was founded in 1998 by Manhattan real estate developers Gary and Steven Brown. Starting out with two brownstone apartments, the brothers acquired and leased residences in prime neighborhoods throughout the city. The company has since grown to apartments throughout the northeast and available globally.
