
Global law firm Proskauer announced that New York City Corporation Counsel Michael A. Cardozo will rejoin the firm as a partner in its New York office effective January 1, 2014.
As the longest serving Corporation Counsel in New York City history, Cardozo has been a top advisor in the Bloomberg Administration since 2002 overseeing 700 lawyers.
“For the past 12 years, Michael has distinguished himself as the finest and most innovative Corporation Counsel in New York City’s history, adding luster to his extraordinary career. We are enormously proud that he will be returning to the firm and resuming his role as one of the nation’s finest big case litigators,” said Proskauer chairman Joseph M. Leccese.
Cardozo reduced city payout of settlements and judgments by 14% and advises on scores of significant litigations. Under his watch, the city has defend the Fire Department against a major class action discrimination suit; addressing challenges to the Administration’s health care and real estate development initiatives; and resolving numerous cases related to the City’s public safety and anti-terrorism efforts.
Cardozo also successfully argued a $2 billion bond case for the City before the New York Court of Appeals and a real estate tax case involving the Government of India before the United States Supreme Court.

Cardozo was a top litigator at Proskauer from 1967-2002.
