John M. Dionisio, one of New York’s most influential and successful building executives, has been elected Chairman of the New York Building Congress, succeeding Tishman Construction Corporation President Peter A. Marchetto.
Dionisio was installed as Chairman during the Building Congress Annual Membership Meeting, held in late January.
Dionisio is currently chairman and chief executive officer of AECOM, an $8.1-billion global provider of professional technical and management support services.
As the head of AECOM, he leads a team of approximately 45,000 employees, including architects, engineers, designers, planners, scientists and construction services personnel, who currently are serving clients in more than 130 countries.
Over the course of his 40-plus-year tenure with AECOM, Mr. Dionisio has been involved in a wide-range of city-shaping transportation projects, including the Second Avenue Subway and numerous aspects of the new World Trade Center infrastructure in New York City.
Thanks in large part to his leadership, AECOM has tripled its revenues, doubled its workforce and vastly expanded its range of services on behalf of major clients around the world during the past five years.
In particular, Dionisio has been instrumental in building the firm’s global transportation and energy infrastructure practices. In 2007, he also guided AECOM’s initial public offering (IPO), which is still viewed as one of the most successful IPOs ever by an engineering firm.
“I have long been proud of my association with the Building Congress and New York City’s design, construction and real estate industry,” said Dionisio.
“I consider myself very fortunate to follow Pete Marchetto, who has done an extraordinary job despite difficult economic times. It is a testament to him and the entire Building Congress staff that this organization is in such solid shape and so well-respected throughout the City. This will serve us well as we expand our efforts to promote the industry as an important economic engine in the City and throughout the State, and advocate continued investment in the region’s infrastructure.”
Marchetto, whose two-year term concluded in January, said, “It has been an honor and privilege to serve the Building Congress, and I look forward to working with John and my building industry colleagues in continuing to advance the industry moving forward.”
