Experts from the world of real estate finance will debate the future of New York Cityʼs investment landscape during the 5th annual Real Estate Weekly Women’s Forum next week.
Kathleen McCarthy, senior managing director and global chief operating officer at Blackstone, along with Greta Guggenheim, of TPG Real Estate Finance Trust, Brookfieldʼs Sara Queen, and Alissa Mall, of the Carnegie Corporation, will take part in a private equity panel moderated by Lisa B. Knee, partner at EisnerAmper LLP, co-hosts of this yearʼs event.
Given uncertainty around the globe, the women will offer insight on changing real estate investment strategies.
“The volatility we’ve seen in the last few months tends to create good opportunities for us,” said Blackstoneʼs McCarthy.
“When people are looking to sell businesses, that creates opportunities for us.”
Discussion is also likely to focus on undervalued asset classes that could attract new equity. TPG is reportedly in talks to purchase 2,800 McDonaldʼs fast food restaurants in China, Hong Kong and South Korea. Fort Worth-based TPG, a private equity firm with $66.42 billion in total capital under management, has invested in multiple quick service restaurant chains, including Burger King and Papa John’s Pizza. In December, TPG Growth, an arm of TPG, purchased Taco Bueno Restaurants from New York firm Palladium Equity Partners.
The morning event being held at the Bar Building on 44th Street will include a keynote speech by Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney focused on vital infrastructure work such as the new Tappan Zee Bridge, Penn Station and La Guardia Airport overhaul.
A former teacher, Maloney served on the New York City Council before being elected Congresswoman in 1992.
The first Council member to give birth while in office, she was also the first to offer a comprehensive package of legislation to make day care more available and affordable.
Over 400 attendees, both male and female, will will attend the forum that also includes panel discussions focused on outer borough development and office leasing trends.
Speakers include Transwestern parnter Lindsay Ornstein, JLL leasing dynamo Lisa Keill and CBRE dealmaker Snezana Anderson.
