Search engine leases 125,000 s/f at Hippodrome

Indeed, the world’s largest job search engine by users, will be moving its New York office to the Hippodrome building in midtown next year as it looks to expand its presence in New York.

The technology company’s long-term lease on approximately 125,000 s/f of space will start in January, and its employees will move from its current location at 125 West 55th Street, which is 55,000 s/f.

“We are thrilled to be moving to this prime location in New York to meet the growing needs of our organization,” said Paul Wolfe, senior vice president of Human Resources at Indeed.
“The Hippodrome’s unique style and location are a perfect fit for us to continue our work of matching employers with job seekers around the globe.”

Indeed’s New York office has more than doubled in recent years, with about 250 employees and growing from a headcount of 116 in 2012. This matches the job site’s overall growth globally, which saw revenue jump 71 percent year-over-year in 2015, and is nearing 2,000 employees in 20 offices around the world.

The Hippodrome is located at 1120 Avenue of the Americas, and Indeed will occupy floors 9, 11, 12, 13, and 16, with room to accommodate over 700 employees in coming years. Indeed employees will also have access to outdoor space overlooking midtown Manhattan.

“The Hippodrome building will offer a truly unique experience for our employees,” said Derek Stewart, Head of Real Estate at Indeed. “The design concept pays homage to interesting job industries that call New York home. We’re placing much thought into creating an environment that will attract top talent.”

Indeed was represented by JLL’s Lisa Kiell, who has helped other major tech companies to find space in the city including Microsoft, Medidata Solutions, and Cisco Systems. Edison Properties owns the Hippodrome. “The central location, efficient floorplate and superior management at 1120 Avenue of the Americas, coupled with the incredible outdoor space provides a powerful attraction and retention tool for employees,” said Kiell, vice chairman, Jones Lang LaSalle.

Indeed was co-founded in Austin, Texas, and Stamford, Connecticut. Austin is the largest office with about 500 employees, and Stamford is the second-largest with over 430 employees.
