Onyx Equities has unveiled redevelopment plans to establish Gateway in Newark as the hub of business and cultural activity with reimagined public spaces and expanded retail and dining options.
Onyx’s plans respond to Newark leadership’s desire transform the city into a walkable destination by redesigning Gateway’s exterior to include approximately 10,000 s/f of street-facing retail space for the first time.
Gateway’s concourse and lobbies and 5,000 s/f of converted retail space will also be reconfigured to be consistent with the expectations of today’s tenancy with spaces of varying sizes to relax or enjoy food and drink from local and international dining options.
“Gateway is located at the nexus of where Newark’s tech, transit, culture, community, and business all come together, it was important for us to redevelop the space to support all of the functions it should be serving for the thousands of people who walk through here daily,” said John Saraceno, managing principal of Onyx Equities. “While Gateway is currently a corridor for commuters, our new plans will help us realize its full potential as a place to begin one’s journey into Newark’s cultural mecca.”
Onyx acquired three of the four Gateway Center buildings in 2018 as its entry into the Newark office market that continues to gain momentum attracting start-up and mature tech-oriented businesses.
