Moelis named ULI Visionary

Urban Land Institute New York (ULI NY) announced that Ron Moelis, CEO and Co-Founder of L+M Development Partners, will receive its Visionary Leadership in Land Use Award, presented at the ULI NY Annual Awards for Excellence in Development Gala.

This year’s Gala will be held on April 21 at Cipriani Wall Street.

The award recognizes a leader whose body of work exemplifies the missions and values of ULI, and who has had a transformational impact on our region and the industry.

“Ron Moelis is the embodiment of a Visionary Leader, and our ULI New York leadership team couldn’t be more thrilled to present him with this award,” said Steven Kohn, Chairman of ULI NY.

“His over three-decade long commitment to urban development and affordable housing has changed the landscape of New York. From the preservation and rehabilitation of low-income housing at Arverne View in Queens that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, to the creation of Essex Crossing, a community-driven model of inclusive, mixed-income, mixed-use development in the Lower East Side, Ron is the gold standard for responsible development.”

Among his most recent projects, Moelis has been part of Essex Crossing, the Lower East Side development that will include over 1,000 residential units, more than half of which will be permanently affordable; the St. Barnabas Wellness Care and Affordable Housing project in Belmont and;

Navy Green, a 103,000 s/f former Navy prison site in Fort Greenethat was converted into a new mixed-use development with approximately 460 residential units, commercial and community space.

Moelis is a founding member of the New York Association for Affordable Housing and the co-chairperson of Building Skills NY.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he holds both a B.A. in history and a B.S. in economics from the Wharton School, and a J.D. from New York University.

He was named Entrepreneur of the Year for Real Estate in 2012 by Ernst and Young for his many years of innovation and creativity in real estate finance and development.
