
On November 14, the NYU School of Professional Studies Schack Institute of Real Estate held its 52nd annual Conference on Capital Markets in Real Estate at The Pierre, drawing hundreds of attendees. Morning panels focused on Global Debt Capital Flows, Drivers of Real Estate Equity, Global Sources of Institutional Capital, and Alternative Finance — Rise of the Non-Bank Lenders. Discussions covered a wide range of topics — from competition in the global debt capital space, to low global interest rates, to the intersection of technology and healthcare and their influence on the markets, as well as the looming threat of Brexit, the US-China trade war, and the upcoming presidential elections.
The luncheon session included an address by Larry Silverstein ’52, chairman of Silverstein Properties, and the annual Golden Apple —The Outlook for New York City panel, which was moderated by Robert S. Blumenthal ‘80, vice chairman & managing director, Americas Real Estate, Gaming, Lodging, and Leisure Group, Deutsche Bank Securities. This panel featured Stephen Ross, chairman & founder, Related Companies; Scott Rechler ’90, chief executive officer & chairman, RXR Realty; MaryAnne Gilmartin, co-founder and CEO, L&L MAG; Marty Burger, chief executive officer, Silverstein Properties; and William Rudin, chief executive officer & co-chairman, Rudin Management Company.
The afternoon panels consisted of two one-on-one discussions. The first, featured James D. Kuhn, president & chief strategy officer, Newmark Knight Frank, who moderated a discussion with Ric Clark, managing partner & chairman, Brookfield Property Group and Brookfield Property Partners. The second, featured Sam Chandan, Larry & Klara Silverstein Chair in Real Estate Development & Investment, and associate dean, NYUSPS Schack Institute of Real Estate, who spoke with Scott Rechler ’90, chief executive officer & chairman, RXR Realty.
