
Caroline Kennedy is selling her mother Jackie’s estate on Martha’s Vineyard.
The former First Lady bought the 340-acre oceanfront property, known as Red Gate Farm (pictured top) in 1979.
Kennedy said, “Forty years ago, my mother fell in love with Martha’s Vineyard. When she found Red Gate Farm, it was a perfect expression of her romantic and adventurous spirit.”
The main residence was designed in Cape Cod style by Hugh Newell Jacobsen, and the landscapes is by Bunny Mellon, the horticulturist who designed the White House Rose Garden when Mrs. Onassis was First Lady.
Originally completed in 1981, it was renovated and expanded in 2000 by Deborah Berke, Dean of the Yale School of Architecture.
The 6,456 s/f main house has five en-suite bedrooms, 2.5-baths, a chef’s kitchen, two offices, three fireplaces and outdoor decks.
A two-story guest house has four bedrooms and three baths plus a living room, kitchen and laundry.
Outbuildings include two garages, a caretaker’s house, a boat house, a storage building, and hunting cabin. There is also a pool and tennis court on the property.
Red Gate Farm is being marketed by Tom LeClair and Gery Conover, agents of LandVest, the exclusive Affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate on Martha’s Vineyard.
The asking price is $65 million.

She and Rosen entertained their celebrity pals Liza Minnelli, Joan Rivers, Helen Hayes, Joan Collins and Ginger Rogers at the house over the years.
Rosen, who purchased the home in 1981 before marrying Dahl, said. “This part of Rockland is virtually unchanged. After a hectic week in New York City, my favorite thing is to sit on one of the two porches and look at the property’s animals: deer, wild turkeys and many species of birds.”
