Harlem retail specialists Faith Hope Consolo and Joseph Aquino, along with Arthur Maglio of Douglas Elliman’s Retail Group are bringing Behind the Book to a multi-level professional space at 216-218 West 135th Street.
The non-profit organization’s mission is to motivate young people in New York City’s underserved public schools, to become engaged readers by connecting them to contemporary writers and illustrators.
“This organization is recognized throughout the educational community as a critical advocate for literacy among our public school children,” said Consolo.
“The fact that its new offices will be in the heart of Central Harlem also reinforces the emergence of the immediate area.”
Maglio added, “The landlord was particularly enthusiastic to have a tenant of this stature at the building because of the invaluable service they provide to the community. Behind the Book is a well-respected group that continues to expand its operations in schools where it is needed the most.”
Douglas Elliman Retail Group has been instrumental in bringing several other non-profit community-based organizations to Harlem, such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and AIDS Services Center NYC.
The new space will serve as headquarters for Behind the Book, which will be moving from 356 West 123rd Street.
