Douglaston Development Arranges Lease for Detour Gallery in West Chelsea

Douglaston Development today announced it has signed a 10-year, 2,656-square-foot lease with Detour Gallery, LLC at Douglaston’s 555 West 23rd Street in West Chelsea (the retailer has an address of 545 West 23rd Street) and is slated to open on April 27th.

Detour Gallery’s new 2,656-square-foot, ground floor retail space will be utilized as an art gallery and events venue, bringing an extensive selection of carefully curated and handpicked contemporary artwork and exhibitions to the West Side of Manhattan. Joshua Young of Brown Harris Stevens represented the landlord in the transaction. The tenant was represented by SIDO New York Real Estate.

“We are thrilled to welcome Detour Gallery to 555 West 23rd Street as they look to grow and cement their presence within West Chelsea’s lively and continuously burgeoning art scene,” said Ryan O’Connor, Chief Executive Officer of Clinton Management. “The addition of Detour Gallery not only represents the continued growth being seen within the art realm across the area, but our team’s continued commitment to creating new opportunities for artists to call the neighborhood home via our commercial space offerings throughout the West Chelsea region.”

“We are excited to be expanding into the heart of West Chelsea as we look to connect with and showcase up-and-coming artists within this creative and art centric community,” said Ken Schwartz, Founder and Art Collector of Detour Gallery. “We’ll be launching our new space on April 27th with our opening show ‘Worth the Detour,’ which will run through June 4th, and look forward to introducing of Detour to the neighborhood in just a couple weeks’ time.”

Additional art purveyors operating within the building’s 11,000-square-foot retail space include Art9 Comics, LLC, Andrea Rosen Gallery and Fredricks and Frasier Gallery. Shayna Schwartz will serve as Detour’s gallery director.

Detour Gallery’s new ground-floor space is part of Douglaston’s 555 West 23rd Street, aimed to provide real value for young, first-time buyers. Upon completion in 2006, the building offered a stylish, luxury condo offering in an emerging neighborhood. The two-story lobby houses a large central atrium, which features a water wall, leather panels, sculptural furniture and art from local galleries. In-unit features include fully equipped open kitchens, wood cabinets and floors and washer/dryers. Additionally, the project includes shared resident amenity spaces and 105 on-site parking spaces. The building is accessible via multiple forms of transportation including the A, C, E, L and 1 subway lines as well as multiple bus routes.
