Patisserie Fouet, New York City’s first French Japanese pastry café, will soon be opening at 15 East 13th Street in Greenwich Village in a 1,900-square-foot space arranged by Eastern Consolidated’s Retail Leasing Division.
Joe Robinson, a Senior Director at Eastern Consolidated, represented restaurateur Huey Cheng in securing the 10-year lease, while the landlord was represented by Zahra Joudi of Compass.
“Huey Cheng is collaborating with an award winning chef Yoshie Shirakawa to fill a void in the New York City market by introducing the first French Japanese pastry dessert café,” Robinson said. “Patisserie Fouet will offer unique sweets to a market that currently is only familiar with Japanese sushi spots, ramen joints, and late night izakayas or bars.”
Robinson represented Cheng earlier this year in arranging a lease for his Japanese restaurant, Raku, at 48 Macdougal Street in SoHo. Cheng also owns and operates two restaurants in the East Village–the original Raku and a separate sushi bar called Kura.
Chef Shirakawa began her culinary training 27 years ago in Japan with a focus on decorated pastries and celebration cakes. She continued to master her skills through teaching at culinary schools and pastry shops, before moving to New York in 2008 to become the executive pastry chef of dessert café Luxee. Since then, her experiences have included Panya Bakery, Bohemian, YS Pastry, and Le Bilbouqet. She has been featured in a number of media outlets, including the New York Times, and is frequently recognized in pastry competitions.
