Candlemakers open experiential store in Chinatown

Experiential candle-making business Wick and Pour is moving to Manhattan after the concept took off in Far Rockaway.

Jess Wu and Steve Kanemori opened their first Wick and Pour at 88-08 Rockaway Beach Blvd. last December and invited guests to experience the art of candle making while enjoying a drink and snack. Guests get to choose which scent, color and vessel they want to use and then make their own 11 oz candle guided by a Wick and Pour expert. The space included a selfie station for photos and food and drinks to enjoy throughout the process.

Ava Kim, principal broker at AKRE NYC, said the venture was such a success, the founders decided to relocate to Manhattan to provide a more central location for clients.

“Many of their current customers have to travel up to three hours by subway, ferry and car,” said Kim. “Their new Manhattan location will provide a more central location for Wick & Pour.”

Kim represented the tenant in brokering the new lease of 550 s/f at 167 Mott Street in Chinatown. KSR represented the landlord in the deal. Asking rent was $6000 per month.
