Women in Housing and Finance Panel: Title Insurance in Affordable Housing Development

Women in Housing and Finance, Inc. are hosting a second conversation on the role of title insurance in affordable housing development on Wed., Sept. 11 from 9-10 a.m. at Enterprise Community Partners, One Whitehall Street, 11th floor.

Speaker is Julia Solo, Senior Vice President and Counsel, of Federated National Land, LLC, who will provide a basic overview of what it is and why you need it, review differences in policy types, discuss risk management, and answer questions. Solo works on numerous complex affordable housing transactions throughout the New York area. Prior to joining the Title Insurance world, she spent 15 years working as an attorney specializing in affordable housing, most recently serving as Acting Chief Legal Officer for the New York Equity Fund (NYEF) and New York City LISC. ULI Fall Meeting

Sept. 18-21: Increasing diversity within the real estate industry, as well as incorporating sustainability in real estate transactions, are among the topics and issues that industry experts will be discussing at the Urban Land Institute’s 2019 Fall Meeting at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. This year’s speakers include Nikki Haley, US Ambassador to the United Nations and Amazon’s director of worldwide economic development Holly Sullivan. MBA Luncheon

Sept. 24: Loan workouts in a commercial real estate market ripe for a correction will be the subject of a lunch program to be hosted by the Mortgage Bankers Association of New York at the Cornell Club.

Joshua Stein, the sole principal of Joshua Stein PLLC and a member of the MBA-NY board, will moderate the program. Richard Fries, a senior real estate partner at Sidley Austin LLP, will be the main speaker. The program will kick off at 12:30. Registration for the program at the Cornell Club (6 East 44th Street) will open at 11:45 a.m., with networking and a buffet lunch. The presentation will begin at 12:30 and include a question and answer period, ending at about 2.
