WHOʼS NEWS: Gebroe-Hammer Associates names Nicholas Nicolaou salesperson of the year

The Building Owners & Managers Association of Greater New York (BOMA-NY) announced that James R. Kleeman, RPA, has been named a 2019 BOMA Fellow.

Kleeman joins the latest class of BOMA Fellows, a group of individuals who have displayed exemplary and sustained contributions to commercial real estate, their profession, the community and BOMA at all levels and have continually answered the call to leadership and service throughout their careers.

The honorees will use the BOMA Fellow credential after their names and will be called upon to serve BOMA in a variety of capacities.

Kleeman is the Deputy Director, World Trade Center Department, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, becomes the New Yorker to receive the recognition.

Kleeman joined The Port Authority in 2011 as the Deputy Director of the World Trade Center Redevelopment Team after nearly 10 years in general management for Related Management’s Commercial Properties team. He is responsible for overseeing the overall operations and management of the entire complex.

With more than 30 years of experience in building operations and property management, Kleeman’s management portfolio has included the iconic Time Warner Center, a BOMA International TOBY award-winning, 2.8 million-square-foot, mixed-use property.

He serves on the Commercial Management Council for the Real Estate Board of New York, acting as Chair of the Policy Committee, and sitting on the board as former President for BOMA New York. He serves on several committees for BOMA International and was named BOMA Mid-Atlantic Region’s 2010-2011 Outstanding Member of the Year.

The American Land Title Association (ALTA), the national trade association of the land title insurance industry, has named Diane Tomb as its new chief executive officer, effective July 1.

Tomb, who has over 20 years experience in the housing field, will leverage her deep advocacy and public policy expertise on behalf of ALTA and its members.

Tomb has served as the executive director of the National Rental Home Council. She also served as president and CEO of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

Previously, she served as Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the George W. Bush administration.

In 2003, Tomb founded D.C.-based public affairs and business advisory firm Tomb & Associates LLC. In addition, Tomb was a senior executive at the Fannie Mae Foundation and worked in the White House under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

She currently serves as a commissioner on the Bipartisan Policy Center’s Commission on Political Reform and on the Board of Visitors at the Fund for American Studies. Tomb is also a member of the International Women’s Forum of Washington, D.C.

Tomb earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md.

NAI James E. Hanson announced that Barton Schack has joined its Teterboro, N.J. office as an Associate Vice President.

Schack will work closely on healthcare real estate consulting and leasing as well as office and industrial leasing and sales in the Bergen County submarket.

Prior to joining NAI James E. Hanson, Schack served as Chief Investment Officer of Regent Medical Properties in Glen Rock, Schack managed Regent’s medical office building portfolio and charted the firm’s long-term strategic investment goals.

Previously, Schack also served as Managing Director of Risk Aversion Group, a consulting firm catering to the commercial lending and surety communities, and Director of Asset Management at Strategic Resources Corporation, a publicly traded opportunity fund, where he managed a portfolio exceeding $1 billion in assets under management.

Katz & Associates announced that Jacqui Chazen has joined the team as Director of Communications and Marketing.

Chazen has over 20 years of public relations and marketing experience working for Edelman Worldwide, Rubenstein Associates and Dan Klores Associates.

Before joining Katz & Associates, Chazen was a residential sales agent at Keller Williams and Sotheby’s International Realty. She also served as Director of GEAR Magazine and 5.1 Entertainment Group.

Chazen earned her BA at The Ohio State University and is a licensed Real Estate Agent.

Urstadt Biddle Properties Inc. announced the hiring of Kirkwood (Kubby) Tischler as Assistant Vice President/Acquisitions.

Tischler will assist UBP in sourcing and underwriting new shopping center acquisitions in the metropolitan NY region as well as special projects. He will report directly to James Aries, Senior Vice President/Acquisitions.

Tischher has gained experience working in the retail investment sales division of Cushman & Wakefield.

He is a graudate of Bucknell University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Political Science.

Gebroe-Hammer Associates’ Nicholas Nicolaou has been named Salesperson of the Year.

Named in memory of the firm’s late founders, Mel Gebroe and Morris Hammer, the annual peer-selected Salesperson of the Year award recognizes one brokerage professional for exceptional, consistent sales performance. Nicolaou is a two-time recipient. In addition to expanding Gebroe-Hammer’s presence within Hudson County, Nicolaou is active throughout the North Jersey MSA and beyond.

Most recently, he represented the seller in the disposition of a 118-building, 2,137-unit portfolio totaling $328 million. Closed in late 2017/early 2018, the six-package Gateway Portfolio marked the highest concentration of stabilized assets in Hudson County to ever come to market.

Nicolaou has recorded 24 sales, nearly 3,000 units, $400-plus million from Q1 2018 to Q1 2019. The latest includes a $75 million trade of 18 buildings on behalf of Madison Hill Properties. The buyer was a private investor.

Nicolaou joined Gebroe-Hammer following a few years with a Fortune-500 commercial real estate brokerage and investment firm.

During his tenure with the firm he has been promoted from sales trainee to assistant vice president, vice president and senior vice president.

Late last year, he was named an executive vice president and now mentors the next generation of Gebroe-Hammer multi-family investment brokerage professionals.

Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. announced that Patti Stone has been appointed as an owner representative to the New York City Rent Guidelines Board.

Stone will play a critical role in the annual effort to determine rent adjustments in the approximately one million rent-stabilized apartments in New York City.

She will participate in public hearings and meetings to analyze research and stakeholder testimony on the issue.

Stone joined Rosenberg & Estis, P.C. in 1988 and is a member with the firm’s Administrative Law Department. She has more than 30 years of experience in New York City real estate. Her understanding of the day-to-day business needs of owners in New York City originated with her work in real estate management for a major real estate owner and developer.

Helmsley Spear announced the appointment of Warren Berger as a licensed real estate agent specializing in tenant representation.

Berger has spent over 16 years in the real estate industry specializing in tenant representation with a focus in the office, retail, and school/education sectors of the market.

Berger began his real estate career at The Lansco Corporation, where he served as Director of the Corporate Realty Group, for 16 years. Most recently, he was with Halstead Property’s commercial division.

He previously, worked in the advertising industry spending more than 20 years specializing in major corporate accounts such as Burger King.

Berger holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Queens College in Communications Arts & Sciences.
