Nearly 600 attendees gathered yesterday at the Real Estate Board of New York’s (REBNY) 19th Annual Residential Management Leadership Breakfast to celebrate the achievements of outstanding leaders in residential property management and hear from keynote speaker Jonathan Miller, CRE, CRP, who serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of real estate appraisal and consulting firm Miller Samuel Inc. This event is annually hosted by REBNY’s Residential Management Council (RMC) and Residential Breakfast Planning Committee.
John McDermott, Vice President at Ogden CAP Properties LLC, was honored with the Residential Management Executive of the Year Award, while Gene Boniberger, Senior Vice President and Director of Building Operations at Rudin Management Company, Inc., was presented with the Residential Management Community Service Award.
“We thank John and Gene for their leadership and career-long dedication to our industry and the community,” said Carl Hum, Senior Vice President for Management Services and Government Affairs at REBNY. “We are proud to honor their contributions and excellence that assures the exceptional operation of our City’s residential buildings, while bringing together members of our growing management community at this annual event.”
In his keynote speech, Jonathan Miller, CRE, CRP, of Miller Samuel Inc. addressed: leveraging assets to drive value in residential buildings among the market’s explosion of amenities; the shifting dynamic of housing in New York City, which doesn’t match what millennials are looking for in terms of price or affordability; the national effect of development at the high end over the last five years; the change in consumer sentiment that is bringing re-sale inventory back into the market; and the over-concern about interest rates.
“When interest rates rise, they’re rising because the Fed is trying to slow the economy down because it’s growing too fast,” Miller explained. “It’s not pushing the market; it’s reining in the market.”
