Fashion designer Dennis Basso, whose designs have appeared in films such as “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Chicago,” will open his first outlet store at Empire Outlets in Staten Island.
The luxury fur brand, which will move into a 2,138 s/f retail space, is the newest clothing retailer to sign at the outlet center that is currently being constructed along the New York Harbor. Retailers such as Nordstrom Rack and White House Black Market have already signed leases for the property.
“Dennis Basso defines international couture, and we are extremely thrilled that Empire Outlets will be the first outlet location for this trend setting global phenomenon,” said Joseph Ferrara, principal at BFC Partners. “Dennis Basso has been hailed by both celebrity and private clients and is consistently featured in the media and at red carpet events worldwide. Our ‘stars’ aligned seamlessly as our vision for Empire Outlets only begins to materialize into an experience that visitors from around the world will want to repeat time and time again, and adding Dennis Basso to our roster of best in class retailers only validates our vision into reality.”
Empire Outlets, which is directly adjacent to the St. George Ferry Terminal, will offer 350,000 s/f of retail space once it is built. It will also contain a 190-room hotel, a 1,250-space parking garage, and a 40,000-square-foot food and beverage deck. It will also be near the planned New York Wheel, which is expected to be one of the tallest observation wheels in the Western hemisphere.
Other retailers expected to open at Empire Outlets include Jewelers on Fifth and artisanal food hall the Marketplace at Empire Outlets (MRKTPL). Currently, Empire Outlets is 60 percent leased.
