Rudin starts renovation of 41 Madison Avenue

Rudin Management Company has commenced construction of the redesigned lobby and public areas of 41 Madison Avenue, in the Flatiron District.

The Rudins have commissioned world-renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) to brighten and expand the ground floor lobby into a new double-height space enclosed by new glass storefronts.

Originally designed by Emery Roth & Sons and built by the Rudins in the mid-1970s, the 42-story, 500,000 s/f property is directly across from Madison Square Park, and has been long-regarded as a premier property in one of the city’s hottest neighborhoods.

SOM’s design will brighten the lobby space with white marble flooring, pearlescent glass wall panels, and a luminous ceiling lit by energy-efficient LEDs to complement the original book-matched Travertine wall panels that will remain on the elevator cores.

The space will also feature a glass entrance, a new reception area and redesigned elevator cabs.

“We are thrilled with SOM’s sophisticated, eye-catching design,” said Bill Rudin, co-vice chairman and CEO of Rudin Management Company.

Eric Rudin, co-vice chairman and president of Rudin Management Company, added, “It was important to us that it not just be beautiful and bright, but energy efficient and state-of-the-art and attractive to our tenants.”

Tenants at the property include the Gersh Agency, Water Island Capital and award-winning restaurant A Voce. 41 Madison Avenue,is also The New York Merchandise Mart, home to 23 floors of showrooms belonging to 80 international manufacturers of tableware, housewares and gift products.
