Olympic Table Tennis champ Wang Chen to open Jersey City club

Olympic table tennis champion Wang Chen is set to open a Wang Chen Table Tennis Club on the Jersey City waterfront.

Newport Associates Development Group  announce that  the athletic club developed by Chen, will take one of the commercial spaces in at 31 River Drive South for the first Jersey City location.

“We are delighted to welcome The Wang Chen Table Tennis Club to Newport,” said a Newport representative. “The club will provide residents of all ages a fun and healthy outlet, and is an exciting addition to the city’s already-impressive selection of cultural and recreational activities.”

This is the first table tennis club in Jersey City

The new 3,100 s/f retail location, located in Newport, thewaterfront community within Jersey City, is spacious and modern, with lots of natural light, and located close to the Path. Situated next to Newport Veterinary Center and Newport Swim & Fitness, the Tennis Club offers members professional coaches, leagues for advanced players to play competitively, and after-school programs for children.

The Wang Chen Table Tennis Club opened its first location in 2004 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, and also has a location in Westwood, New Jersey.

“Table tennis is beneficial to the mind and body, and clubs provide an environment for socializing and developing friendships,” said a representative of Wang Chen Table Tennis Club. “We are thrilled to open our third location in Newport, which we believe is ideal for our club because of its strong sense of community.”

Among the tenants  established in Newport are financial powerhouses JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup, and waterfront American restaurant Fire & Oak.  Earlier this year, f Tory Burch and cosmetics giant L’Oréal signed long-term leases in the city.
