Kiddie Academy to move into former McKenzie Door Co. store

Kiddie Academy, a national franchisor of educational child care programs, will open its first Manhattan outpost at 70-72 Reade Street in Tribeca.

The franchisee leased 13,500 s/f of space in the building in a transaction arranged by Timothy G. Pond, Matthew Kucker and Jordan Baruch of Colliers International. RKF’s Andrew Stern and Scott Zinovoy acted as agent for the building owner.

Kiddie Academy has multiple franchised locations in the Tri-State, including Williamsburg, Flushing, Whitestone, Secaucus and Hoboken, among other areas, but 70-72 Reade Street will be the first location to open in Manhattan.

The franchisee chose Tribeca for its family-oriented environment, and this particular location for its ability to accommodate classrooms, play and dining areas, and other child care uses in a cohesive unit.

It is also located three blocks from the Washington Market Park, a child-friendly park with jungle-gym equipment already in place.

The space formerly housed the MacKenzie Door Company, an institution that owned the space for more than 70 years until it sold the site to real estate developer ML7 in 2015.
ML7 is renovating nearly 32,000 s/f at the property into new commercial spaces, storefronts and luxury residential condominiums.

Kiddie Academy of Tribeca expects to open the 70-72 Reade Street academy later in 2018.
