WHO’S NEWS: Commercial appointments and promotions

The Commercial Industrial Brokers Society of Long Island (CIBS) announced the election of three new board members and the re-election of three current board members.

The new board members, who will serve two-year terms beginning January 1, 2018, are:

Bradley J. Diamond, a managing director/partner of Lee Associates BQLI office. He formerly served as a member of the organization’s associate board.

Ralph Benzakein, LEED AP, SIOR, a partner in Cresa Long Island in Melville. He formerly served as a member of the organization’s associate board.

Amanda Gorozdi, a senior associate in the Melville office of Avison Young. She formerly was an associate board member of the organization.

Those re-elected are Mario Asaro, SIOR, president of Industry One Realty Corp; Gary Joel Schacker, SIOR, principal of United Realty/Triangle Properties and; Doug Haynes, a vice president in Cresa Long Island.


Olshan Properties announced the appointment of Erik DeBeukelaer as Director of Finance, Hotel Portfolio.

DeBeukelaer, who will report both to Olshan’s Head of Hospitality, Ernie Catanzaro and EVP of Finance, Wayne S. Chang, will be responsible for managing property-level accounting and portfolio accounting and reporting across the company’s growing national portfolio of Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott-flagged hotels.

In addition, he is also charged with ensuring the correct implementation of recently on-boarded business intelligence solution Profit Sword and its suite of financial reporting modules, highlighted by ProfitSage.

Prior to joining Olshan Properties, DeBeukelaer served as Director of Finance at Sage Hospitality. Before that, he held senior finance positions at Crescent Hotels & Resorts, National Hospitality Holdings, LLC, and Boykin Management Company, where he began his career in 1988.

DeBeukelaer has also provided independent, strategic consulting to Canyon Capital and Jones Lang LaSalle on a variety of high profile properties and financial projects.

He earned a BBA in General Management from the University of Toledo.


NAI Mertz announced that Fred Meyer has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Director of Brokerage/Corporate Services.

Meyer will continue to oversee all company brokerage activities in the industrial, office and retail sectors. Additionally, he will play an active role in the growth and quality performance across all brokerage service lines.

Throughout Meyer’s 30-year career in commercial real estate, he has directed multi-state real estate searches and portfolio analysis for national companies such as GXS, Empire Today, MasTec, Matheson Tri-Gas and McKinsey Consulting.

He is a consistent top producer for NAI Mertz and was recently tapped to co-chair NAI Global’s Tenant Representation committee, having previously chaired the Industrial and Logistics committees.

Meyer holds the SIOR designation. He attended Horace Mann School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester.


Tarter Krinsky & Drogin announced the arrival of Karen Schwimmer as an associate in the Real Estate.
Schwimmer represents owners, operators and developers in the acquisition, financing, leasing, development and disposition of property.

She also assists lenders with commercial real estate loan transactions, and cooperative and condominium boards with governance issues.


Country Bank of New York announced the appointment of Louis A. Tallarini to its Board of Directors.

Since 1991, Tallarini has been the president and CEO of Real Property Investors, an advisory firm which consults with institutions on real estate matters, performs real estate related asset management services and acts as an advisor for debt and equity capital for institutional investors.

A trained accountant in the real estate field, Tallarini spent the early part of his career with the international CPA firm Harris Kerr Forster in Manhattan working on commercial real estate audits.

He is a licensed New York Real Estate Broker who has owned, operated and consulted on commercial real estate for almost 50 years in the multifamily, retail, office, industrial and hospitality areas.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Fordham University, College of Business Administration.

Tallarini has served since 1979 as a Board member, past President and Chairman of the Columbus Citizens Foundation, best known for organizing New York City’s Columbus Day Parade and is the co-founder of the Italian Language Foundation
He is a Vietnam Veteran having served 12 months in combat during the war.


TH Real Estate has appointed two senior executives, in newly created roles. Michael Hunter, Senior Director based in New York, joins the Product Development team. John Philipchuck joins as Director of Research and Strategy based in Chicago.
Michael Hunter formerly worked for the New York State Common Retirement Fund where he helped oversee a real estate portfolio of over $13 billion.

He also worked in an acquisitions capacity at Blackpoint Partners and Griffin Capital. He holds a BS degree from Rutgers University.

John Philipchuck joins from Harrison Street Real Estate Capital where he developed research to guide investment strategy for their portfolio of education, healthcare and storage assets in the U.S. and Europe.
He has also worked at GIC Real Estate, and Moser Enterprises, Inc. and earned his BS in Finance/Real Estate with a concentration in International Studies from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.


Wachtel Missry, LLP announced that Julian D. Schreibman, Esq., a partner in the firm, has been elected to serve as Justice of the Supreme Court in New York’s Third Judicial District. His term commences January 1, 2018.

During his nearly 10-year career at Wachtel Missry, Schreibman handled matters ranging from complex commercial litigation to white collar criminal defense.

As Assistant General Counsel at the Central Intelligence Agency, he was entrusted with the nation’s highest security clearance and worked on a variety of sensitive matters, including support to the Department of Justice on terrorism prosecution.

As both a federal (SDNY) and state (Ulster County) prosecutor, Julian earned a reputation for diligence and fairness. He has overseen numerous complex narcotics trafficking, fraud and financial crimes investigations.

He earned his J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. from Yale College.
