Sports, media giants head to Industry City

Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment is expanding its corporate footprint with new office locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Since launching Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets in 2012, BSE has grown to include NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and the business operations for the New York Islanders, with additional venues coming.

Beginning in June 2018, BSE’s corporate office will relocate to Industry City in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, one floor below HSS Training Center, where the Brooklyn Nets practice.

Located one subway stop from Barclays Center, the office will accommodate up to 350 employees and occupy 70,000 s/f on the seventh floor of the historic waterfront warehouse.

The space, which has long served as a relic of the industrial age, is currently undergoing a full renovation and will feature an open floor plan with high-end custom finishes. The amenities will include state-of-the-art conference room technology, collaborative lounges, a game room, and refueling pantries.

TPG Architecture will be redesigning the space and Bruce Mosler and Joe Cirone of Cushman & Wakefield served as key advisors to the Nets on the leasing transaction.

Industry City is a 16-building, six million square-foot innovation and manufacturing hub led by a partnership between Jamestown and Belvedere Capital.

The property is home to more than 450 companies employing 6,500 people and now offers a range of dining and retail options as well as open spaces featuring a growing number of community and industry events.

In Manhattan, BSE has leased office space at 125 Park Avenue near Grand Central to support the expanding need for meeting and office space in midtown.

This satellite office will open in mid-September and serve as the Manhattan meeting location for all BSE sales and content development. The property owner SL Green Realty Corp. worked with BSE to identify the space.

“Since 2012, our company has nearly doubled in size and we are looking forward to having these new corporate offices in order to support our continued growth,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of BSE.

“Additionally, with Brooklyn Nets business and basketball united under one roof, we will further build a collaborative work environment that encourages innovation and teamwork.”

“It says a lot that after nearly two years of experiencing all that Industry City has to offer, the Brooklyn Nets chose to locate their corporate offices here, when they could have gone anywhere,” said Kathe Chase, director of leasing at Industry City. “At Industry City, a hyper-amenitized workplace and a local millennial workforce come together to create a culture and a vibe that cannot be found anywhere else.”

BSE also operates a West Coast office, which recently moved to Century City in Los Angeles. The space is used by programming and sponsorship sales executives.

Industry City announced that Condé Nast is also leasing 6,356 s/f at the Sunset Park hub to serve as a full-service video studio for The Food Innovation Group (FIG), an creative agency comprised of award-winning Bon Appétit and Epicurious, two of Condé Nast’s leading lifestyle brands.

The space will be used as offices to accommodate a larger video production team and state-of-the-art kitchen and video facilities. It is expected to be fully-functioning by November 2017.

The deal was represented by Carl Condon, Mark Harris, Martin Cottingham and Matthew Pynn of Avison Young on behalf of Condé Nast and Jeff Fein of the internal Industry City leasing team.

“The media industry, like many creative industries, is increasingly looking to be where their workforce lives and plays: in Brooklyn,” said Chase.

Other media companies at Industry City incude Serious Eats, Brooklyn Rail, Bust Magazine, Prodigious, the content arm of Publicis, and Time Inc., which launched TheDrive and Extra Crispy, two digital editorial brands, from their Industry City space in June 2016.
