WHO’S NEWS: The latest new hires, promotions, and honors

The New York City architecture, design, and planning firm of Montroy Andersen DeMarco (MADGI) has hired Allie Roberson as Job Captain. The value of the firm’s ongoing commercial, office, hospitality, retail, and multi-family projects exceeds $500 million. Building Design & Construction ranks MADGI as the 88th largest architectural firm in the U.S.

Roberson’s current projects include office fit-outs for Novantas and Sumitomo in Manhattan; a 2,800 SF restaurant at the Dazzler Hotel in Brooklyn, NY; and the building repositioning and upgrades of 111-115 Broadway in New York, NY for Capital Partners.

Prior to joining MADGI, Roberson worked in design capacities at The Office of Charles F. Bloszies, FAIA, in San Francisco, CA and at 2 Point Perspective Inc. in Chicago, IL. She holds a Master of Architecture from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

McLaren Engineering Group, a full-service, multi-faceted firm with eight engineering divisions, announced today the promotion of Jeremy D. Billig, P.E., to Vice President and New York City Regional Director. With over a decade of experience in structural analysis and design, inspections and renovations, Billig has managed a number of large, complex projects since joining McLaren Engineering Group.

Billig joined McLaren as a Junior Engineer in 2005, initially focused on entertainment-related projects. Since then, he has served a range of markets including healthcare, retail, hospitality, transportation and alternative energy, and expanded McLaren’s role in the construction engineering industry. In 2010, Billig opened McLaren’s New York City office, which now employs nearly 35.
Billig holds a Master of Engineering degree in Structural Engineering from Cornell University.

Racanelli Construction Company, Inc. announced the appointment of Anthony J. Scorcia as Project Manager. With over 30 years of experience as a senior project manager and project executive, Scorcia has a proven track record directing complex project conception to completion and delivering them on-time. He is adept at working with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors and fully knowledgeable regarding general contracting and construction management contracts and subcontract documents, as well as project scheduling, materials purchasing and project cost tracking.

Most recently, Scorcia served as President of his own firm, Scorcia & Associates, Inc.(Floral Park, NY). He began his career in the construction industry Scorcia & Diana Associates (Floral Park, NY), where he started as an Assistant Project Manager and Assistant Field Superintendent and rose through the ranks as Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and Vice President.
Scorcia resides in East Northport, NY.

Consulting firm Arup has announced the appointment of a new Americas Region Board effective April 1, 2016.

Leo Argiris, Chief Operating Officer. Argiris has over three decades of experience as a structural engineer and business leader. He has served as the managing principal of the New York office, led the social infrastructure and education business for Arup, and designed world-class institutional and commercialprojects across the globe. As COO, Leo continues to focus on the progression of Arup and Arup’s staff.

Fiona Cousins is an Arup Fellow and a recognized authority in sustainability and design. She is the 2016 Chair of the USGBC Board of Directors, co-author of Two Degrees: Climate Change and the Built Environment, and Chair of Arup University in the Americas, the firm’s program to foster innovation, research, learning, and knowledge.

Raj Patel’s practice radically changes the way that people and companies understand, design, and experience real, augmented, and virtual worlds. Corporate interior design firm MKDA announced that the firm has hired Lindsey Kosinski, RA, AIA, LEED AP, as Project Manager. Ms. Kosinski, who joins MKDA with 12 years of technical experience, will provide architectural design and project management services out of MKDA’s Stamford, Conn. design studio, which this year is celebrating its 10th Anniversary.

Prior to joining MKDA, Ms. Kosinski was an architect at Gensler, where she was the technical lead on 1.4 million square foot project for a major media company in Manhattan. She had also worked as an architect at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) and STUDIOS Architecture, where clients have included Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan Chase, Grey Advertising and Cohn & Wolfe.

Ms. Kosinski studied at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from the University of Notre Dame. She is a member of The American Institute of Architects and a Registered Architect in the State of California.

The Stamford, Conn. office of corporate interior design firm MKDA announced the promotion of Lisa Bauerle, NCIDQ® Certificate No. 07964, LEED AP, to Creative Director. Formerly a Senior Interior Designer, Bauerle will continue to perform design and project management on accounts while also providing studio-wide creative direction and staff management.

Throughout her career, Bauerle has worked on a variety of assignments for a number of Fortune 500 companies, including Terex, General Electric and Pepsi. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Miami University, and holds a certificate from The National Certification of Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).

Hoffmann Architects announces the acceptance of a joint ownership opportunity by three members of the firm’s senior staff.

Owner and president of Hoffmann Architects, John J. Hoffmann, FAIA, recognized the commitment, aptitude, and experience of Business Development Director Maureen J. Dobbins; Senior Architect Erin L. Kesegi, AIA; and Senior Architect Benjamin J. Robinson, AIA with an offer of part ownership in the specialty design and rehabilitation firm he founded in 1977.

Dobbins, Kesegi, and Robinson join the eight company executives who became shareholders in 2011 and 2013: Executive Vice President Russell M. Sanders, AIA; Chief Financial Officer Avi A. Kamrat; Senior Vice President Craig A. Hargrove, AIA, LEED AP; Senior Vice President Richard P. Kadlubowski, AIA; Senior Vice President Arthur L. Sanders, AIA; Vice President Lawrence E. Joseph Marie has been appointed operations manager of the transit & rail technical excellence center (TEC) at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization.

In his new position, Mr. Marie will provide leadership in the areas of project delivery, strategic initiatives, and talent development for transit and rail projects across the U.S.
Mr. Marie has 30 years of experience in the design, construction, and operations and maintenance of intermodal transportation systems. Since joining WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff in 2012 as a technical manager, he has led the firm’s work on several major contracts.

Mr. Marie previously served in prominent positions for several state and regional transportation systems, including the Connecticut Department of Transportation, Valley Metro Rail in Phoenix, Minneapolis Metro Transit, the Port Authority of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. He has also held executive positions with two of the world’s leading transit systems suppliers—Bombardier Transportation and Siemens Transportation Systems.

Mr. Marie has published more than a dozen articles and papers on equipment technology, operations and modal integration for transit industry journals in the United States and Europe. He has also lectured at Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Waterloo, University of Toronto, University of Connecticut, University of Karlsruhe (Germany), and Concordia University.

Mr. Marie received a master’s degree in public administration from Pennsylvania State University and a B.A. in economics and political science from Merrimack College. His professional affiliations include the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the American Public Transportation Association.

Shawmut Design and Construction announced the promotion of Greg Skalaski to vice president of the retail division. In this role, Skalaski will lead Shawmut’s 281-person, $300 million retail business unit, overseeing operations nationwide through the Boston, New York, Miami, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles offices.

Previously the director of retail construction, Skalaski has been with Shawmut for 18 years and was a member of Shawmut’s first Construction Management Skills Training (CMST) class, a cross-discipline training program that grows and develops future Shawmut leaders.

Skalaski’s promotion comes on the heels of recently being named one of design:retail’s 40 Under 40 for his achievements and impact in the retail industry.

Ware Malcomb announced that Marlyn Zucosky has joined the firm as Director of Interior Architecture & Design. In this role, Zucosky will be responsible for the growth and management of the Interior Architecture & Design Studio and oversee all interior design projects for the Princeton office. Ware Malcomb Principal Michael Bennett is responsible for overall growth and management of the firm’s New Jersey and Miami offices.

A graduate of the Art Institute in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Zucosky brings over 25 years of experience in commercial office, education, hospitality, retail, and residential interiors to Ware Malcomb.
She is a committee member for the Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers Association (IOREBA), and a member of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). In addition, she serves as a Board member of the Arts Council of Princeton and is active with the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Princeton Symphony Orchestra.

Lauren Mulrooney joins Hoffmann Architects as Business Development Manager for the New York City office, covering the greater New York metropolitan area and New Jersey. Gregory A. Kelly, president and chief executive officer of the U.S. and Latin America region of WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, has been named the 2016 Gallery of Success awardee by Temple University’s College of Engineering.

Mr. Kelly earned a B.S. in civil engineering and construction technology from Temple.

Hollister Construction Services announced that Keith H. Lesser, AIA, LEED®AP, and Michael A. Ochs, ESQ., have joined the growing Hollister team.

Keith joins Hollister as Vice President of pre-development and design. He will collaborate closely with the company’s pre-construction and delivery teams on various pre-development and design/build assignments.

Keith is a licensed architect with more than 30 years of practical, diversified experience in both design and building technologies. He specializes in higher education, research laboratories, healthcare, retail facilities, multi-family residential, building renovation and restoration, and urban design.

Keith joins Hollister from S & L Architecture Studio, where he served as a partner for more than 20 years. He has designed many projects that have received Merit Awards, including Wesley J. Howe Center for Technology Management, Bloomfield College Residence Hall, Phoenixville Medical Center Office Building, Wesley J. Howe Student Center at Stevens Institute of Technology, Oracle Implementation Center and the BME/CVMG Lab at Rutgers University, to name a few.

Keith received his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology from the University of Wisconsin and his Bachelor of Architecture from the Pratt Institute. He also attended Harvard University, Graduate School of Design, and received a certificate in Research Laboratory Design and Technology.

Michael joins Hollister as General Counsel. In this role, he will advise and represent Hollister to ensure compliance with all legal requirements. He will support Hollister’s strategic business plan and will collaborate in corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives.

Before joining Hollister, Michael spent two years at Bertone Piccini, L.L.P. as Of Counsel and three years as a Partner. He was part of the strategic management team of the firm’s multi-state transactional real estate practice group. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Burke & Associates, L.L.C. as Real Estate Associate, handling client matters in the areas of residential condominium development, commercial real estate transactions, litigation management, project finance, land use and zoning.

Michael attended and received his Juris Doctorate from Villanova University School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude in Political Science from Lehigh University.

Tim Lehotsky will lead the New York building technology systems group as a new vice president at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global engineering and professional services organization.

Mr. Lehotsky has over 25 years of experience in information technology, with 15 years in IT Infrastructure design and project management. His areas of expertise include design and project management of multiple IT systems, including infrastructure, security, audiovisual, and data center, for mission critical facilities, institutions, hospitals, government facilities, and commercial buildings. Prior to joining WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff, he was an associate principal with a New York technology and acoustical consulting firm.

Mr. Lehotsky attended Manhattan College, studying electrical engineering. His professional affiliations include a member of BICSI, ASHRAE, and a provisional member of the ASHRAE TC 9.9 Committee.

Malin Aamillom has joined the prominent New York City architecture, design, and planning firm of Montroy Andersen DeMarco (MADGI) as designer.

Aamillom’s current projects include office fit-outs for World Economic Forum, Alcoa and Arconic, ICM, 321 Theatrical Management, and Foran Glennon Palandech Ponzi & Rudloff, all in Manhattan.

Prior to joining MADGI, Aamillom worked in marketing and management capacities at several European business-to-business, technology, telecommunications, and consumer services firms, including HI3G Access, Estate Europe AB, Eniro Sverige, and Campuz Mobile. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Berkeley College in Woodland Park, NJ. Aamillon is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
