WHO’S NEWS: Pat Sapinsley to lead NYU sustainability initiatives; Chris Gallin to lead family firm

Faithful+Gould has welcomed Saeid Garebaglow as a Vice President and lead for its Corporate Real Estate Sector.

Before joining Morgan Stanley, he co-founded REplan LLC, a boutique real estate advisory company. Prior to REplan, Garebaglow had the global responsibility for Citi’s workplace strategies and solutions, providing strategic planning to Citi’s regional portfolio of more than 58 million square feet.
Garebaglow’s philosophy as a project manager is largely thanks to his background as an architect, having received his official registry from the state of New York in 1995.

The NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering appointed Pat Sapinsley, a noted figure in New York City’s green-tech community, to head the school’s sustainability-focused incubator and related initiatives.
As Managing Director of Cleantech Initiatives, Sapinsley will oversee the NYU School of Engineering’s Urban Future Lab (UFL), which was founded in partnership with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC).
The UFL houses the New York City Accelerator for a Clean and Resilient Economy (NYC ACRE), which helps clean-technology companies in New York City grow and which will now also come under Sapinsley’s purview.
Additionally, she will be instrumental in NYU’s role in PowerBridgeNY, a New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)-sponsored proof-of-concept center, which leverages clean-energy innovations emerging from university and institutional research labs to create more and stronger businesses in New York State.
Sapinsley is a LEED AP architect who is Co-Chair of the Committee on the Environment of the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
She is also a member of the Board of Building Energy Exchange, which provides support to the building industry to achieve Mayor’s 80×50 energy efficiency goals.
Sapinsley has been working in the environmental/energy efficiency field for over 15 years.
She was the founder of Build Efficiently, a consulting firm that worked with young companies to develop buildings-related energy-efficiency technologies.
Through her former company, Watt Not, she had experience working with real estate owners to decrease their lighting energy consumption. She is also a former Venture Partner of Good Energies, one of the largest independent investors in renewable energy and investments, with investments in 35 portfolio companies.
Sapinsley holds a Master’s in Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and has served on their Alumni Council.
She has held faculty appointments at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture and Planning, Parsons School of Design, and Pratt Institute.
From 1982-1993, she was principal of Sapinsley Architecture, where she was named one of the Emerging Voices by the Architectural League (1988).

John Gallin & Son has named Christopher Gallin president.
Gallin was previously Vice President of Marketing and Client Relations, and will now oversee the entirety of John Gallin & Son’s strategy and operations across all departments.
He becomes the seventh member of the Gallin family to lead John Gallin & Son since its founding in 1886.

Mark Varian, who has served as President since 2000 and has been with John Gallin & Son since 1973, will remain with the firm as chairman of the Board.
Gallin joined John Gallin & Son as a superintendent in 1983. He rose through the firm’s ranks to become partner and vice president in 1987.
Gallin holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Dayton. He serves as an instructor at the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York Mechanics Institute.

Lilker Associates Consulting Engineers announces that Electrical Engineer Steven Eriquez, PE, LEED AP, has joined the firm as a project manager in its Manhattan office.
Eriquez will be responsible for supervising key projects in the residential and commercial sectors, including condominium conversions and large scale retail and mixed-use facility systems design.
Prior to joining Lilker, Eriquez spent the past 15 years with AKF Group where he provided project management and electric design team leadership on numerous high profile projects: the retail portion of the entire World Trade Center complex, the Woolworth Building Residential Condominium Complex, Cipriani Club and Condominium Residences at 55 Wall Street, the 600,000 s/f Rego Park retail development, and the 226-bed Jamaica Hospital Nursing Home.
Eriquez serves as a mentor to students at both of his alma maters, Xaverian High School and Manhattan College, where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics and has recently been nominated to the Mentor Program Advisory Board.

DMR Architects has hired Colleen Mahr as its new Director of Business Development.
Her role will be to expand upon existing marketing and business development efforts to enhance DMR’s relationships in the public sector.
Mahr has worked in economic development for more than 20 years, starting in the City of Jersey City in the 1990s. She spent several years working for a private company promoting charter schools throughout the United States.
Most recently, she worked for the County of Union as the head of the Division of Strategic Planning and Intergovernmental Relations.
She is currently in her third term as the mayor of Fanwood, N.J., a Union County municipality of more than 7,000. As mayor, Mahr has overseen the transformation of downtown Fanwood during her tenure, an effort which earned the Borough a Smart Growth Award in 2014.
Mahr serves on the executive board of the New Jersey League of Municipalities (NJLM), and is past President of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors.
In addition, she chairs the NJLM Land Use Legislative Committee and leads the Mayor’s Coalition for the Raritan Valley Rail Coalition.

AECOM has appointed Robert W. Leonetti as senior vice president, alternative delivery leader, Design and Consulting Services, Americas.
Leonetti will be responsible for relationship management with teaming partners, staff development and leveraging the full capabilities of AECOM in leading the growth of the business segment.
Prior to joining AECOM, Leonetti most recently served as vice president and director, business development and marketing, at Granite Construction, Inc., where he was responsible for directing lead generation and marketing efforts for business units and subsidiaries nationwide.
Leonetti’s 35-year career includes experience in corporate business development strategy initiatives, merger and acquisition market analyses, marketing campaigns and government and public relations activities.
Previous roles included vice president of business development and marketing at Yonkers Contracting Company, Inc., deputy manager of the transportation division at URS Corporation and acting commissioner/deputy commissioner of public works for the City of Yonkers, New York.
Leonetti is based at AECOM’s Third Avenue office in New York City.

Francis Cauffman announced that Jennifer Kenson, IIDA, EDAC, has been appointed Principal, Healthcare Interior Design.
For the past 23 years, Kenson has been creating compassionate healthcare environments for prominent clients, delivering designs that bring a sense of humanity back to patients during the healing process.
Kenson’s national healthcare clients include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the North Shore Long Island Jewish Healthcare System, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, Main Line Health, Drexel University Medical College, the Children’s National Medical Center, St. Michael’s Medical Center, and Montefiore Medical Center.
Her design sensibilities and collaborative approach have resulted in multiple awards, including a Healthcare Environments Award and an Interior Architecture Merit Award from the AIA for the Claire Tow Pediatric Pavilion at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Kenson has a Bachelor of Science from Drexel University, and is EDAC and NCIDQ certified.

Jonathan Ninnis has been named Partner and Director of Commercial Projects at OwnersCorp Incorporated, a New York City-based project management and owner’s representative consultancy firm focused on top tier residential and commercial projects throughout the greater New York City area and around the country.

A registered architect with more than 15 years of experience in both residential and commercial design, construction, and project management, Ninnis joins OwnersCorp from L&L Holding Company, where he served as Vice President of Development.
In his newly-created position, Ninnis will manage and grow OwnersCorp’s commercial division, which specializes in asset development and re-positioning, core and shell, education, hospitality, retail, and commercial interiors among others.
Prior to L&L Holding, Ninnis served as a Senior Associate at VVA Project Managers, and Managing Agent at Citi for Cushman and Wakefield.
These positions have allowed him to complete prestigious projects for many clients such as Citi, JP Morgan, NYU Langone Medical Center, City University of New York, the Union Club of the City of New York, Beacon Capital and many others.
Ninnis’ expertise spans across projects of all sizes from hundreds of thousands to hundreds of millions of dollars in value. Over the course of his career, he has completed nearly $500 million in projects across three million square feet of real estate throughout the greater New York City, New Jersey, and Boston areas.

Janice Barnes, planning and strategies global leader for Perkins+Will, accepted the Sokol Media Pioneering Women in Real Estate award at a ceremony in midtown Manhattan.
The award honors Barnes’ contributions to urban and regional planning, workplace design, sustainability, and “resiliency”—an increasingly important design strategy that focuses on a building’s ability to withstand more frequent and more powerful natural disasters brought about by climate change.
Barnes, who is based out of the New York office of Perkins+Will, chairs the firm’s global Resiliency Task Force, advancing resilient design principles and practices firm-wide as a way to maximize environmental, social and economic benefits across communities.
She also leads the New York office’s urban design, brownfield development, and community engagement strategies for municipal and regional clients, and writes extensively on workplace design.
Barnes earned a lifetime achievement award from the Cocke County Education Foundation in Tennessee, where she grew up.
Barnes will also deliver the keynote at the St. Catherine’s University Design and Business Conference this fall in Minneapolis, and she is slated to appear in an upcoming video by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) on the role of resiliency in design.
Barnes joined Perkins+Will in 2001. She holds a Ph.D. in Architecture and Business and a Master of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan; a Master of Architecture from Tulane University; and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee. She is a LEED Accredited Professional.
